UPMC/Jefferson Regional Home Health, LP hosted the 2008 Long Term Care Symposium on October 1, 2008 at the Regional Learning Center in Cranberry Township, PA. More than 75 long term care professionals from the southwestern area of Pennsylvania attended the symposium including administrators, case managers and social workers. |

"Looking through the Kaleidoscope: The many facets of geriatric care" was the theme for this year's
conference. Presentations focused on evolving changes in assisted living facilities, the continuum of care process,
and geriatric issues including diabetes, sexuality and stressors. UPMC/Jefferson Regional Home Health, LP was
privileged to present speakers with extensive expertise and experience in their field. These professionals provided
valuable insight on the latest methods for managing geriatric health care needs along with techniques for applying
these methods. |

The symposium also featured several displays provided by companies within the UPMC Community Provider Services
division. Participants were given the opportunity to speak with representatives from UPMC Home Medical Equipment
(DME), Chartwell(Home Infusion), Rx Partners, Inc. (LTC Pharmacy), UPMC Senior Communities, Centers for Rehab
Services, and UPMC/Jefferson Regional Home Health, LP (Telehealth services). |
UPMC/Jefferson Regional Home Health was approved to award six CEUs or the equivalent of six hours of
instruction upon completion of the symposium to nursing home and personal care home administrators, social workers
and case managers. The plan for next year's symposium is to include topics relevant to geriatric nursing and also
provide CEUs for registered nurses. |

The 2008 Long Term Care symposium was well-received by attendees. One participant noted, "I have been
attending symposiums for years and this was one of the most informative, well-presented conferences I have been to.
" Several attendees commented that the conference was well-organized and presented.

Participants were asked to offer suggestions for future topics and ideas included "techniques for staff
retention " and "conflict resolution". UPMC/Jefferson Regional Home Health, LP consistently works to
identify the most important issues facing the long term care industry today and incorporate those topics into the
annual symposium. |
